How Tier 4 Funding Supports Safety Net’s Work

Safety Net offers a 4-tiered approach to provide wrap-around support for children, young people and adults affected by rape, exploitation, sexual and domestic abuse. This would not be possible without the funding and grants we receive.

Safety Net received £20,000 this October from the National Lottery Community Fund under the Awards for All funding programme. This grant will help fund our Tier 4 services so we can provide volunteer support for those ready to get back into the community.

Our volunteers provide one-on-one support and run groups like our coffee/creative hub and men’s group. Many people impacted by abuse and trauma often feel isolated. Reconnecting with others and joining in activities is a crucial part of their recovery journey. However, taking those first steps isn’t easy, they often need a hand. This funding will allow us to develop our volunteer team so more people get the support they need.

Safety Net continues to build strong relationships with local clubs, charities and groups that welcome our Tier 4 service. With the support of a befriender, ex-clients can join these activities to build connections and self-confidence.

Over 70% of our volunteers are ex-clients with lived experience. Through our volunteer program, they find opportunities for growth, giving back, and building skills for future roles. Male volunteers will receive training to start additional groups, helping us reach more people in the area. This grant also allows our volunteers to provide support to people on our waiting list, both over the phone and face-to-face.

We plan to recruit volunteers for administrative support roles to improve communication between the volunteer team and staff. Regular feedback sessions will keep us aligned on improving service delivery as we continue to grow.

Thank you to Awards for All for this generous funding. This grant will have a positive impact on our Tier 4 service, allowing us to reach more people affected by sexual and domestic abuse and extend our support where it’s needed most.
